15 best ways seo

The 15 Best SEO Tips for WordPress in 2011

So without further ado, I’m very pleased to share with you 15 of the best SEO tips for WordPress in 2011. Let’s make this year our best year ever.
  1. Create Amazing Content: You’ll probably want to viciously punch my hansom face for leading this list with such a clichéd topic, but it’s undeniably true and far too many of you are still failing to produce material that truly appeals to your viewers. If you were producing something amazing, the world would be beating down your door trying to get to it.
  2. Link to Amazing Content: It’s always a good idea to point your users toward resources on other websites that will be helpful for them. It shows security as a thought leader in your niche when you’re willing to suggest to your readers that they leave your site, and search engines favor sites that link to other websites that it views as both generally authoritative and relevant to your articles.
Special Note: Don’t link to other sites with the hope of getting something in return. Find resources that are genuinely helpful and share them with your readers. People will respect you for it.
  3. Sprinkle Your Keywords Throughout Your Articles: The term keyword refers to the word or phrase that you hope to be listed for on Google search. Once you’ve identified a term that you’d like to be listed for, be sure to use that term a few times throughout your article. Do this is small portions, because if you do this too much you’re a spammer using a tactic that we refer to as keyword stuffing.
  4. Use Your Keyword in the Title: This is one of the strongest ways to get listed for a search term. However, it is again incredibly important to remember that you must not practice keyword stuffing. Only put your keyword in the title if you’re able to make it sound fun, exciting and engaging to your readers. You don’t have to sacrifice your quality to implement this or any of these 15 SEO tips for WordPress.
  5. Enable Trackbacks: Trackbacks are a neat system that allow links to be created in your comments section to anyone who links to your articles. With them enabled, it’s a great way to encourage people to link to you which in turn will help to build your site’s authority.
  6. Optimize Your URL Structure (Pretty Permalinks): We call these pretty permalinks and they provide much more information about your page to search engines. You should change your website URL’s so that they do not display like this: http://www.sitesketch101.com/?page_id=1 but instead let’s make them look like this: http://www.sitesketch101.com/the-vision-and-focus-of-site-sketch-101.  Here’s how we do that. Under the settings panel click on permalinks. Select custom structure and input the following code (just put in what comes after the equals sign into the fields):
Custom Structure = /%postname%/Category Base = categoryTag Base = tag
  7. Optimize Images In Your Posts: When you can illustrate your topics and articles with attention grabbing artwork or photography people are more likely to view your content. I personally use Flickr’s Creative Commons Search to find excellent photography. As you work to do that, be sure to use image titles and alt text that adequately describe both the image and the content of the article.
  8. Provide a Google Sitemap: Google likes it when you provide them with an easy-to-read overview of all the pages on your site. The easiest and most effective way to deliver this much needed SEO tool is to simply install the WordPress plugin called Google XML Sitemaps. This plugin will do all the hard work for you and automatically update every time you add new posts to your site.
  9. Customize Each Post’s Slug: When you are writing your article, the ’slug’ field that is located just below the title of the article will determine the website address of the article. So if I enter ‘5-crucial-tips-for-wordpress-users‘ for the slug then the website address of this article will behttp://www.sitesketch101.com/5-crucial-tips-for-wordpress-users. Search engines that see that your website URL’s have the same keywords as your meta description, title, keywords and your content will be seen as being even more consistent.
  10. Interlink Keywords Between Articles: Internal links are a powerful way to let Google know what your articles are about, and they’re a terrific way to increase page views across your site as they invite your readers to click through to read other articles. Do you interlink your articles?  You should.
  11. Provide Valid XHTML Code: There are, in fact, several reasons that you should take the time to validate your website to the standards of the World Wide Web Consortium. If you know anything about the basics of html then getting started won’t be difficult. Simply click through to the W3C Validator, type in the name of your website, and then follow the instructions that it provides you for resolving each issue.
Advanced: Although Google clearly states that they will not dock a website for invalid code, you won’t ever have to worry about them missing anything if your site is semantically accurate.
  12. Cache Your Blog’s Content: WordPress is a php based system that generates pages on the fly. In other words, your home page doesn’t actually exist. It is created fresh every time someone tries to load it. WordPress looks at a database full of variables which include the articles, the post titles, the sidebar widgets and everything else and compiles them into a page and then delivers it based on the settings and options that you’ve chosen in the control panel. WP Super Cache and W3 Total Cache are WordPress plugins that allow that generated page to be stored as a real static page so that the next person to view it doesn’t have to wait for it to be created. This drastically reduces the time it takes a viewer to see your pages and increases the possibility of keeping more readers. This means that your content will always be lightning fast.
  13. Install a WordPress SEO Plugin: In your plugin manager click on “Add New.” Do a search for “Headspace SEO” and install that plugin. Activate the plugin and then go back to your article manager. If you create or edit an article you will now see several fields at the very bottom of the page that include title, keywords, and description. On each article, you will want to fill out the last two at least. Check out the following three articles for more information about setting up your Headspace SEO installation:
SEO Tips & Tricks for Your WordPress BlogSupercharged SEO: A Guide to Headspace 2WordPress SEO Made Simple With Headspace
  14. Recycle Old Posts and Revive Old Permalinks: The art of recycling an old post simply means that you take an article that was previously published, let’s say five or six months ago, and add new life and excitement to it and republishing it. If you want to keep growing the ranking authority of your most powerful articles from last year then be sure to leave the permalink alone. This allows you to bring in a fresh wave of links to a page that already ranks in Google.
Note: For more information on implementing this principle successfully, check out How to Effectively Recycle Old Blog Posts.
  15. Link to Related Posts: My final piece of advice is to install WordPress Related Posts Plugin and begin linking to 4 or 5 similar articles at the bottom of each article. This is both a terrific way to guide your readers to more of your articles on similar topics and it’s a terrific way to guide search engines around your site.

resources for seo webs and blogs

Resources Page

Here are my favorite free and premium website tools.   If you are reading my eBook “Home Business in 30 days“, these tools are listed in the same order week by week.  So, you may follow along and take the action steps as you read the guide.
Please support us by sharing this page with your friends.
You’ll also receive my free ebook download too.

Week 1:  Building A Custom Website

Creating a website is an important first step.  With the Internet you can enjoy the benefits of mass communication that allows your message to reach hundreds (and even thousands) of people at little to no cost to you.
There are 3 components necessary for your website to be on the Internet.
1.   Domain
2.  Web Hosting
3.  Website
**My favorite WordPress Plug-ins are at the bottom of this page.**

godaddy web hostingDomain Name
What is a domain name?  You domain name is your website address.
Buy the perfect domain name that relates to your business.  It will be better for your SEO if it contains Google friendly keywords.
I use GoDaddy.com because it is simply the most popular and they have great round the clock customer service.
Use this link to receive 10% off your purchase.
**Support us by Clicking here to go to GoDaddy.com. We will get credit if you sign up and purchase a domain.

Liquid Web HostingWeb Hosting
A web hosting company is an extremely secure website that stores all of your website information.   It stores all the information on every page, article, everything you see on your website.
Every website must use a hosting company to be seen online.   It is the connection between your domain name and website, so it is visible on the Internet.
Choose a hosting company with good customer service just in case your website goes down for any reason. I use Liquid Web Hosting because they automatically back up my website daily.  And, they have 24/7 customer support.
**Support us by Clicking here to go to LiquidWeb.com. We get credit if you sign up.

Elegant themes word pressWebsite Template
A template is the website layout.   People no longer have to build their websites from scratch.  Instead we use templates that look much more professional.   See the link below for examples.  You will be impressed.
Choose WordPress template that has a clean and professional look and feel.  You want it to be easy on the eyes of your readers.  There are many free ones to choose from, but I personally think if you spend a little it looks much better.
I have used ElegantThemes.com for previous websites because
they have a professional look at a very cheap price.
**Support us by Clicking here to go to ElegantThemes.com. We get credit if you sign up.

Choose a Website Developer
A web developer/designer is a person who specializes in the “back end” of the website and the website codes.  They are needed to connect your domain, web hosting, and website template.   They are also very useful to make your website user friendly.
If you want to do custom adjustments or colors to your website, I highly recommend hiring a web designer if you are not already website savvy.
If you need hands on help please contact us.   We have great relationships with high quality web and graphic designers from the UK to Bulgaria (yes they do the best work at a great price in my experience).
Since we send them a lot of business, we get discounted prices which are very affordable.

Week 2:  What Everyone Ought To Know About SEO

What is SEO?  SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.  It is the process of improving the visibility of a website or content on a website through search engines.
Use these tools to help you get better search engine ratings:

google keyword toolGoogle Keyword  Tool ( Free )
Find commonly searched words and phrases in Google for your business type.  This website will help you see what people are searching on Google: Google Keyword Tool
Type in the keywords pertaining to your website, and Google will list 100 common keywords, how much traffic they get, and what the competition is like.
The goal is to use the Keywords with the most traffic.  Choose 10 keywords that have low-mid competition with a high search rate.

Submit Your Website To Google ( Free )
Sitemaps tell Search engines about the pages that would not get discovered with the normal bot crawling process.   This gives a clear map to the search engines, and therefore makes your website easy for the search engine bots.  That’s always a good thing.
Submit your sitemap to Google:  Click here

Bing WebmasterSubmit Your Website To Bing ( Free )
Create a Bing Webmaster Account to submit your Website to their search directory.   You may also submit up to 10 of our website pages daily.
Create your Bing Webmaster account:  Click here

yahoo site explorerSubmit Your Website To Yahoo ( Free )
Create a Yahoo Site Explorer account to submit your website and rss feed to their search directory.

Submit Your Website To Ask.com ( Free )
Ask.com is a little different because they don’t have their own webmaster tool.  But, it is easy simply replace write your URL and copy and paste into your browser.
http://submissions.ask.com/ping?sitemap=http://www.YOURURL.com/sitemap.xml
If it is successful, the image on the left will show up on the screen.

SEO ScribeSEO Scribe
SEO Scribe makes SEO easy.  It helps you write your articles to be search engine optimal by telling you how your Title should be written, keywords that should be used, and reminds you if you forgot to add anything to rate you better on searches.
It really comes in handy for people new to SEO.
**Support us by Clicking here to go to SEO Scribe. We get credit if you decide to purchase it.

Week 3:  Do Social Media Like An Expert & Grow a Website Following

There is no better way to build relationships with your readers than connecting on your social media account.   It also creates a platform for you to speak your message and become an authority in your niche.
Use these tools to grow your following faster.
**My Favorite Facebook Application links are at the bottom of this page**

Aweber Email Aweber Email Auto-Responder
Aweber is the most popular brand for email marketing and is used by a majority of the top blog websites.  It is an email auto-responder that allows you to create ongoing newsletters to connect with subscribers and market your website.
This will make your email subscriptions easy. Your visitors will enter their name and email address and you can keep them updated with newsletters.  Aweber makes this process simple to learn even for people just starting.
**Support us by Clicking here to go to Aweber.com.  We get credit if you sign up.

google feedburnerGoogle Feedburner For Your RSS feeds ( Free )
Google Feed burner is a free service that allows your readers to sign up for free email updates.
When people sign up for feed burner, they will be sent an email when you write a blog.
Adding an RSS feed can help increase visibility and also boost site traffic because your web pages will now get indexed in blog search engines and online feed readers as well in addition to regular web search.
Create your feed burner RSS account: Feed Burner sign up

Max Blog Press Subscription MagnetMaxBlog Press Subscribers Magnet
Subscribers Magnet is a wordpress plugin that builds subscribtions to your email list by using unobtrusive ways.
You can create custom subscription sign up areas in the right bar, footer area, and even pop up.
But, I only use the check box in the comments area to subscribe to my Aweber account.  It has been very effective and convenient for my readers.
I also like how it automatically pre-fills commentor’s name and email address in the sign up boxes.  That really gets the reader’s attention and it is only one click to subscribe.
**Support us by Clicking here to go MaxBlog Press Subscribers Magnet.  We get credit if you decide to purchase.

Week 4:  Making Money – Attraction Marketing, Affiliates & Other Passive Income

Attraction Marketing is a simple method that has been effective for home based entrepreneurs.   The approach is quite simple.  Instead of talking about and selling the business opportunity or the products/services, you give valuable information to your potential customers to figure out solutions for their problems.
In turn, you become elevated to expert status, and people are drawn to you for your advice (rather than feel like they are being sold to).
I go into depth about this in my eBook.   Read a brief outline to see if you could get value from it:  Click here

my ecover makerMy Ecover Maker
Market your PDF eBook or Video series and create an eBook Cover image or DVD product line image. There is great software out there so you may do this for free in only 5 mins.  I used MyEcoverMaker.com and it’s amazing how professional it looks.  My “Home Business – The Smart Way” eBook cover was created on this website for less than $5, but they also have Free version too.
*Please support us by using this link if you are interested.  We get credit if you decide to purchase one.  MyEcoverMaker.com

link share affiliateLink Share Affiliate Network ( Free )
Link Share is a network of over 700 companies that offer affiliate programs. You can search for companies that are resourceful and relate to your business.
*Please support us by using this link if you are interested.  We get credit if you sign up.
Create your free Linkshare affiliate account:  Click here

Google adsenseGoogle Adsense ( Free )
You get paid per click by signing up for a Google Adsense. Google displays simple text and image ads on your blog that are targeted to what you’re writing about.
However, my belief is that if you are to truly profit from your blog you need to tailor your ads specifically to your audience to keep them entertained and educated, not advertised to.
For most bloggers, I suggest you implement Google Adsense first and test how it works for your unique situation. If you are happy with the amount you are making or if you think there is potential then keep it. And if not, you can move on and try different methods.
Create your Google Adsense Account:  Click here

Must Have Word Press Plug-ins ( Free )

After a lot of searching, here are the ones I use on my websites.

Akismet Comment Spam Filter:  This plug in comes preinstalled into all WordPress themes, but you must activate it for it to work.   I get tons of spam every day and I wouldn’t know what I’d do without it.  But, it is not always correct, so I do have to approve some comments that it marks as spam.  It is used by millions of websites.  Akismet is quite possibly the best way in the world to protect your blog from comment and trackback spam.

All In One SEO:  This is a definite must have for anyone wanting to be visible on Google.  It makes SEO easy by making your links Google friendly.   It also makes it easy to change your Title, Description, and Keywords.  You may see more information and download on this page here.

Better Word Press Google XML Sitemaps:   This usually comes preinstalled with your Word Press theme, but it is crucial for SEO visibility and letting the search engines know you exist.   Every time you update your blog it will send a “Ping” to Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Ask.com that tells them to check out your website.   Make sure it is set to Ping those search engines (see image below).   For more information and download click here.

Social Media Widget:  It adds links to your social media accounts to make your website easily sharable.
This is a simple sidebar widget that allows you to input your social media website profile URLs and other subscription options to show an icon on the sidebar to that social media site.  We have custom social media buttons on our website, but this one is highly rated.   For more information or download click here.

Subscribe to Comments Reloaded:  This allows the reader to check a box to sign up for email notifications when someone else makes a comment in the same post.   For more information and download click here.

Thank Me Later:  This automatically sends a “Thank You” email to those who comment on your blog.   It engages the visitor by reminding them to check back again.  You are able to set the message, delay, and any restrictions.  For more information and download click here.

Go Social:   This is a definite must have.   It makes your blog posts easily sharable by automatically having social media share buttons at the bottom of each article, such as the Twitter Follow, Facebook Like, Digg, Stumbled Upon, Google +1, and the “Email Friend” buttons.  For more information and download click here.

Auto Facebook & Auto Twitter:  This is an automatic way to keep your Twitter and Facebook fan page active.   It will automatically update your accounts when you publish a blog post/article.   Here are the plug-ins we use to auto-Twitter and auto-Facebook all of our blog posts.
Auto-Facebook
Auto-Twitter

Tweetbacks: This cool plug-in shows the tweets about your post and pages as comments on your blog.   For more information and download click here.

Facebook Applications ( Free )

Use these applications to create a professional custom Facebook fan page.

Static IFRAME:  I used the Static IFRAME Tab App to create my Welcome page.  I like it because you can either upload a photo or create your welcome page yourself.  After creating this page, change the settings so that your Welcome Page will be the default page that visitors first see.
Here’s a link to the free Facebook App: Static IFRAME

Networked Blogs App: First register your blog, and then create a tab that will show all your blog posts on a specific page. I like this specific app because it looks better than the others.
Here’s a link to the Facebook App: Networked blogs

YouTube App: Connect this to your YouTube account. This allows you to show your YouTube videos on your Facebook page. There are many to choose from, but I liked Involver.com app because it is much more visually pleasing to me.
Here is a link to the Involver App:  Involver YouTube

Twitter to Facebook App:  This will post all your Tweets to Facebook. But, keep in mind that these posted Tweets are less visible to your Facebook Fans than posting directly in Facebook.
Here’s a link to the Facebook App: Twitter

5 Steps Bloggers Should do

1. Add a page title.
WordPress makes this easy, go to Settings > General (on the left side nav column). As you can see in the image below, the first two options on the page are for Blog Title and Tagline. Fill in both. The title shows at the top of every web-browser page (see the top of the image where the red arrow points). This helps search engines find you and determine what your content is all about.

With some WordPress themes, the Title and Tagline will display in the header on the blog. If you don’t want these to be visible (and you are hosting wordpress on your own server, using wordpress.org), then open the header.php file in your editor of choice and remove the
<?php bloginfo(‘description’); ?> and   <?php bloginfo(‘name’); ?>
(Be careful not to delete anything between the <title> </title> tags. Sometimes the <?php bloginfo(‘name’); ?>  is listed twice, remove the one not between the title tags.)

2. Submit your blog/site to Google, ZoomInfo, Yahoo! Directory & DMOZ (at a minimum). These submission may take time to be approved, so try to do it early on.
3. Add an automatic Technorati ping. Every time you post a new article, Technorati will be pinged! Directions are here for the various Blog platforms, however, WordPress was very easy to set up. I added this URL, http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping, to Settings > Writing. (Refer to the image below.)  At the bottom of the page will be a box that will most likely already have a URL in it, just add the Technorati URL below the existing one, and hit save!

Technorati Ping Directions
4. Use fewer images, and shrink the ones you do use. This will help your pages load faster (especially considerate for people in slow-bandwidth situations).
5. Label all images with ALT text. Search engines, bots and spiders that crawl your site can’t see images, so the alternative text allows them to get a clear picture of all the elements and information on your site.  On WordPress this is done in the Image Editor, when you upload a new image.

C&W Dance
Drawing
Racquetball
Tennis
Karate
Ceramics
Stop Smoking

Yoga

Eligibility:

The program is available free of charge to all full-time employees and retirees.
Part-time and limited full-time employees and spouses, including retiree spouses, are allowed to participate in wellness testing provided they pay for costs ($50.00 for bloodwork). They are not eligible to take release time for participation in wellness activities.

A blood test, to include a Chem Screen Panel + Coronary Risk Panel + Complete Blood Count (see link below for current year's schedule), is required yearly. Any employee who does not participate in the fall testing may still join the wellness program provided he/she presents a copy of the above lab work done within a year to the location wellness coordinator.

Procedures:

Test results are provided to all employees. Professional interpretation of the results should be attained from the employee’s personal physician. Wellness participants should consult their personal physician before engaging in wellness activities.
Employee participants are entitled to take a total of 1½ hours of work time each week (during working hours) to participate in wellness activities on or off campus, provided they match 1.5 hours of personal time each week. Time for wellness activities must be cleared and documented with the employee’s immediate supervisor and in some cases by a doctor's release.

Wellness-entitled time or matching time cannot be accrued.
Employees may participate in campus exercise or fitness classes free of charge, or they may use facilities at other campuses within the District. Employees may participate on a space-available basis.
Employees may choose to use facilities such as local fitness centers, YMCAs, etc. as long as they do so within working hours. The utilization of home equipment or any wellness activity conducted at the employee's residence is not eligible for release time.
Wellness-related activities are not covered by the district’s workers compensation insurance plan.

Employee Responsibilty:

Wellness testing is done annually at all DCCCD locations. Employees may choose any location where they wish to have the testing done.

If another location other than the normal work site, the employee must contact the work site's Wellness Coordinator to sign up for the testing. Be sure to indicate the location where the test results should be sent.

HR Responsibility:

The Wellness program is coordinated by the District Human Resources office 214-378-1526.

Exception to Policy:

Testing done outside DCCCD's provided testing dates and times will be at the employee’s or retiree's own expense.
Exceptions to the policy must be approved by District Human Resources.

Other Notes:

A health-conscious, educated employee can lead to a healthier employee. The District recognizes the importance of employee education as a means to enhance personal health. The Health Center serves as a focal point for the distribution of up-to-date news and facts on issues important to good health. Within each Health Center, employees will discover a vast supply of publications related to health issues and wellness programs.
